Project Challenges & Solution

Like most complex website migrations, this project came with several technical and structural challenges including CMS content differences, booking engine re-integration, multilingual setup, SEO preservation during migration, and optimization of legacy media files all of which were carefully handled to ensure a smooth transition to WordPress without affecting functionality, performance, or search visibility.

Content Structure Differences Between CMS Platforms: The original CMS organized content differently from WordPress, making a direct page-by-page transfer impossible without manual rebuilding of certain sections.
Solution: Each page was manually rebuilt within WordPress using the new block system, ensuring the content structure was not only transferred but improved — resulting in a cleaner, more maintainable site architecture.
Booking Engine Re-Integration: The RoomRaccoon booking widget was originally configured within the old CMS environment and required careful reconfiguration to function correctly within WordPress.
Solution: Worked directly with the RoomRaccoon integration documentation to re-embed the booking engine within WordPress, testing all booking flows thoroughly before go-live.
Multi-Language Functionality: Restoring three-language support (NL/EN/DE) within a new WordPress environment required selecting and configuring the right plugin setup to match the original behavior.
Solution: Implemented a suitable WordPress multi-language solution and manually verified all translated content across every page in each language.
SEO Risk During Migration: Any CMS migration carries the risk of losing existing search rankings if URL structures, metadata, or sitemaps are not handled correctly.
Solution: A full redirect map was built before migration began. All metadata was transferred to the new SEO plugin, and Google Search Console was monitored closely post-launch to catch and resolve any indexing issues immediately.
Media & Image Optimization: The old CMS had accumulated unoptimized images across the gallery, rooms, and homepage sections which were simply carried over in their original state.
Solution: All images were re-optimized during the migration process — compressed, resized, and converted where appropriate — resulting in noticeably faster page load times on the new WordPress site.

Project Results

Successfully migrated the entire website from the old CMS to WordPress without downtime or data loss, while improving site speed, preserving SEO rankings, and giving the hotel team full control over content management through a more flexible and scalable platform for future growth.
